Conduct reviews and analyze results, Nov 2024-July 2025
- The literature review identified and reviewed publications that describe how agencies are using technology and how they are assessing its value — technology planning, readiness and needs assessments, procurement and technology adoption, management, and operations. More broadly it looked at how agencies implement changes and solve problems.
- The market review described technologies, their functionality, and benefits. The analysis identified technology availability, market gaps, and emerging trends.
- The training environment review researched relevant training opportunities and courses and identified how training is delivered, areas that are well covered and where there are gaps, and emerging trends.
Gather input from state DOTs and transit providers and analyze results, Oct 2024-July 2025
Online surveys and interviews of key participants gathered information and perspectives related to transit technology, including:
- Needs, priorities, challenges, and opportunities
- Desired supports or resources for transit technology planning, acquisition, implementation, maintenance, and sustainability
- Transit technology knowledge and experiences
- Impacts of barriers and challenges, and possible solutions
>> Status: This work is largely completed with analysis continuing; results will be presented in interim and final project reports. The next phase, developing and piloting resources, will be driven by learnings from the literature, market, and training reviews, and results from engaging transit providers and DOTs.
